Comment on a Colleague's Work #2

Link to An Nguyen's Original Blog Post "TSA: Thugs Sexually Assaulting"

This post really reinforces the fact that we need to make the government government get rid of the TSA. They are quite honestly the epitome of incompetence, and are only "stepping up security" to look less ignorant and more intimidating. As you said, "Over 64 percent of Americans say they approve of the new body scanners and 32 percent said they opposed. They polled only 514 people." WOW! A whole whopping 514 people! That's almost the size of Weir, Texas. The credibility of this poll is highly suspect, and a much more reputable source (CBS) found that 83% of people polled believed that the scans and pat-downs are an invasion of civil liberties, and that 96% of people polled will actually change their vacation plans to avoid having to deal with the TSA.

A college student named Rebecca Solomon had to deal with an a**clown of a TSA employee. The worker planted a bag of white powder in her luggage, then made her explain how it got there. After she cried and tried to explain how she'd never seen the bag in her life, the employye tells her he's just joking. WOW, great prank! The man was fired, but deserves far worse. However, what really gets me is the molestation. Sure you can make the claim that there's a need to pat down people who beep at the metal detector, but there's hardly a need to pat down most people, especially the children. Do they REALLY believe children are terrorists? Sure, they terrorize adults every once and a while, but who's really going to strap a bomb on a kid and send them to an airport? The body scanners are completely unnecessary, expensive, and no studies have been tested on the radiation exposure. Dr. Michael Love from John Hopkins University School of Medicine claims that "statistically someone is going to get skin cancer from these x-rays." Sounds safe to me!

Hopefully more people read this blog so that we're all informed about how vile the TSA is and how we can put an end to the abuse and ignorance.

Born in East Africa

Today Obama has finally released the long form of his birth certificate for everyone to see. And what do you know, he WAS born in America! Wow who would've guessed? I mean, it's not like anyone ACTUALLY believed he was born in some faraway African land, right? Well as it turns out, Donald Trump apparently did. For the record, I hope he's just playing the wicked game of "politics" and calling Obama out in an effort to stir up some anger with the Tea Party/oppressed rednecks, and isn't actually so ignorant.

In other news, John McCain, a rival Republican nominee to Bush in 2000 and a presidential candidate in 2008, was born in Coco Solo Naval Air Station
, Panama. PANAMA! (Typing this has Van Halen's classic stuck in my head) Of course, that received little, if any, talk time on the political shows. Does being born on a U.S. base, which happens to be on foreign soil, make a person a “natural-born” citizen of the United States, and thus pass the main requirement of Article Two of our Constitution? I personally don't believe it counts, but the debate will go on.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Governor, Terminator... Possible Presidentor? Back in 2004 the Austrian-born Mr. Universe was campaigning to amend the United States Constitution so that foreign-born citizens could run for president. Of course this dissolved quickly, but I can't help but wonder why the requirements to become president are even relevant in these times. Those that passed the citizenship test probably know more about the United States Government than most “natural-born” citizens. In amending the Constitution, it would end any confusion for McCain's presidential bids.

So while the "Birthers" constantly want our president to show them the Birthcertificatefax when they have no evidence to support any claim that he was born in Kenya (aside from very “authentic” handmade certificates), they are being extremely hypocritical by turning a blind eye on one of their own. But in this country, it's cool to be a hypocrite! Read Bush Senior's lips, no new taxes!

Looks legit to me!

Back on to Mr. Trump. A man who has declared bankruptcy many a times, had who knows how many divorces, and keeps teasing us with his bid to run for presidency while running a reality show. But if I had a dollar for every way I could nitpick against Trump, I'd be as rich as him! "Today, I'm very proud of myself because I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish... I am really honored, frankly, to have played such a big role in hopefully getting rid of this issue," says the ever-gloating Don. Never mind that he's been the biggest role in CONTINUING the issue, instead of pushing to end it. I believe that the issue will go on for as long as Obama's president, with the non-believers touting that the certificate provided is a fake, and claiming that they have the official one.

So... what has this stupid debacle over our president's legal right to govern this country accomplished exactly? We're still in Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Libya. The national debt isn't shrinking. The healthcare debate continues. And Donald Trump is still an idiot.

I agree with absolutely everything you say in your post. The government has been disconnected with the average citizens for many years, and now the connection is at an all time low. It's really sad to see just how much they don't care about our less fortunate citizens. My mother, who was single while I was growing up, really depended upon WIC to cover the little things, so I can relate to what's going on. I mean, cutting down on health care programs and NOT taxing multi-billion dollar corporations? It's no wonder we're in a 15 trillion dollar debt! Could you imagine what just a mandatory 5% tax on every company that operates in America could do for this country? Certainly much more than the 20% they're taxing the average citizen!

The rich can stand to be taxed too, but they're finding ways to pay off congressmen to lower taxes (see the irony?). I see no problem with cutting government paychecks either, because they really are getting paid too much to sit in an office and gripe every time you call them (looking at you, Texas State Board of Pharmacy). And about that defense spending, we are spending over $600 billion for defense according to the 2010 budget, which is more than any other country's spending, and really all that's doing is making us look big and scary. Ooooh! We can definitely cut from that, because like you said, we spend money on things that don't work well or don't work at all.

It's really a shame more people don't have this mentality about our country's budget, because the world would be a much better place if we all did.

What Really Matters to OUR Elected Officials

Last night, as I was drifting away to sleep, I recalled a bill proposal that would regulate how loud television commercials could be. I shrugged it off at the time, thinking to myself, "Congress has more important things to worry about". Well as it turns out, they don't. The bill became law in December of last year. Let me just say firstly, I CANNOT STAND LOUD COMMERCIALS. However, this is something the networks should work out, not something that should be deliberated upon in our nations capital.

What should they be working on? Hmm, well we're in an economic recession, there's gotta be something they can attempt to resolve there! And what's our national debt at right now? *quick check online* 14 TRILLION DOLLARS!? How about fixing that! Oh and that whole Obamacare mess, I'm no genius, but it sure sounds like that's pretty controversial. If it's not too much of a problem Congress, I'd like for y'all to try to resolve some of that mess. But no, you'd rather beat around the bush and deal with much less significant problems.

We voted for these people to better our lives. Granted, there's always this understanding that they won't be able to solve TOO much, but instead of being focused on re-election they could be more focused on our well beings. I used to wonder what goes on in the minds of Legislators, but if the problem of commercial volume is a serious issue for them, then I'd rather not try to find depth from a shallow mind.

Fun With Gun Laws

This article, courtesy of ThinkProgress.org, regards a current issue in Iowan politics. A bill is currently in the works that would allow the people of Iowa to freely carry around firearms - in plain sight - without the need of a "licence, permission from a sheriff, background check, or any training". And what kind of a human with no regard for the safety of their neighbors would propose such a bill? Oh, a Republican! (Tom Sands, in case anyone cares) The author, Alex Seitz-Wald, has adopted the stance that promotes a stricter gun law and exposes really ignorant politicans, and so have I.

However, the icing on the cake from this article comes from the fact that a fellow Republican, House Speaker Pro Tem Jeff Kaugmann, thought his microphone was off while he was on the House floor and exclaimed to another representative that the bill is "The crazy, give-a-handgun-to-a-schizophrenic bill". Once an aide of Kaugmann's realized the problem, they immediately cut his microphone off. Oops!

Even the political allies of Sands believe the bill thrown on the House floor is totally bonkers. It shocks me that any state could ever consider something like this, so it goes without saying that I truly am disappointed in the 4 states that currently have similar laws in effect: Alaska, Arizona, Vermont, and Wyoming. Wait a minute... Arizona has a law that doesn't require a permit to handle firearms? Do you mean to tell me that the Tucson shootings that happened this year could've been prevented simply by enforcing stricter gun laws? I'm no politician, but it seems like this problem isn't THAT hard to fix!

Obama to Prejudice: Get Off My Property

(Blog author's note: article author's name not found. We all have to deal with it)
In this editorial, “Mr. Obama Moves Against Bias”, the author agrees with the Obama Administration's decision to demand the Justice Department to “stop defending the constitutionality” of the Defense of Marriage Act, signed by Bill Clinton in 1996. The act, which “arbitrarily denied federal benefits for married couples to married same-sex couples, ...allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages that are legally recognized in other states.” The author makes many attempts to point out that the act is immoral, referring to it as “deplorable” and “sanctioned blatant discrimination”, and I for one agree wholeheartedly.
In our society, whether it is in the form of racial, gender, or homosexual discrimination, it simply does not belong anywhere. We live in a country where we are constantly striving to move forward, and clinging stubbornly to our outdated beliefs will not get us anywhere. And besides, the act that Clinton passed CLEARLY violates the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which states “full faith and credit shall be given in each of these States to the records, acts, and judicial proceedings of the courts and magistrates of every other State”. What Obama is doing is just a small step towards a creating a nation that is fully equal. The author remarks that what Obama is doing “firmly skewers what has been bad law and complements the recent Congressional repeal of the government’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” prejudice suffered by gay men and lesbians serving the nation in the military”. That was the first step in this process, now lets complete the rest.

GOP Vote Against Health Care Reform, Whine Later

Merriam-Webster's 3rd definition of irony is described as "incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result", and while irony is one of my favorite types of humor, this is not funny at all to me. While we bitch at politicians for not being in touch with the average American, the fact of the matter is that these people do have families and at the end of the day, are just bringing home the bacon. What amazes me is that every single Republican voted against the health care bills, even those who have no insurance to fall back on. Not being able to afford health care is pretty damn depressing and it's a damn shame we don't have free health care in this country. But that's just like, my opinion man.

However, here is a little bit of humor from one of our buddies, Republican representative Michael Grimm out of New York. When asked whether or not he should have a government-subsidized health care that average Americans aren't entitled to, he replied, “What am I not supposed to have health care?…God forbid I get into an accident and can’t afford the operation. That can happen to anyone.” Oh no, turns out everyone in this country is 2nd rate compared to Mr. Grimm!

All in all, this article really does a good job at humanizing our Congressional leaders, and if you enjoy having many emotions coursing through your head all at once, this article is highly recommended for you!
P.S. it isn't a long read either, for those who get bored after reading 3 paragraphs :)
